Opencaching NODE_IDs
« am: 09. März 2016, 18:08:22 »
I remember that when I started opencaching.ro, I chose an ID number (from what was apparently available) and published that choice to OPENCACHING-PL team and on this forum.

Since then the following concept struck me a bit:

Is there an "official" or otherwise unified / organized way of assigning OC node_id numbers?
I mean something similar to internet registered numbers, as held by IANA.

Even if there is none (most likely), I believe there should exist a list of currently assigned numbers published on a webpage (somewhere under http://opencaching.eu/ would be a good choice), along with a set of rules or guidelines on how to register a new number and avoid duplications.

Thank you.

Maybe You should take a look at the OKAPI project.
They have answers to almost every question, e.g. which sites are existing:

The OKAPI project has nothing to do with that, and it also does not have a complete OC site list (becaus not all sites support OKAPI).

The Node IDs are traditionally assigned by Opencaching.de. Here is the list, currently in German; we have added opencaching.ro there.

I have done some research and compiled a list  that illustrates (as best as possible) the current state of Opencaching network.

The list is available publicly here: http://blog.opencaching.ro/2016/03/11/opencaching-node_ids/

I have done so since neither OC project, OKAPI, opencaching.eu have a fairly complete picture of the Opencaching network, nor is their information reasonably up to date.

I will strive to keep this list updated.

Any contribution is welcome.

Thank you.

P.S.
I do not intend to override or otherwise go against OCDE team or other Opencaching personnel.
I simply believe having such info easyly accessible is beneficial.

No, I was not aware of it. It represents a history of OC codebase and forks up to 2012, I see.
Very intresting, but it does require updating.

OCRO started in 2014 based on OCPL.
OCNL if I remember correctly switched to OCPL sometime in 2013 (?)

Thanks. What do you think about putting this list into an open Wiki, so that we can maintain it together?

The OC.de Wiki already has some English pages, and everyone can register and contribute there. You can immediately contribute there after registering. Any other Wiki would do as well - it's just about kepping this listing up-to-date, which is difficult when it depends on one person.

opencachingspain.es, opencaching.it and opencaching.fr are no nodes but local views of opencaching.de.

Yes, this is pretty outdated.

As we have to build our own wiki as well, starting up from zero experience with Wiki, I will consider that, but a bit later.

And yes, I will register on OCDE Wiki for this.
Thank you very much for the suggestion.

And the evolution of OC nodes and codebases should go there as well.

On another hand, I believe the website www.opencaching.eu should be updated regarding currently active nodes.

Also, IMHO, this website should offer a short guide towards any potentially new nodes, providing a way to register a node_id, and offer a short guide on how to choose between the two currently existing (and actively developed) codebases (pros, cons, advice on why to choose OCDE or OCPL codebase) and other information regarding integrations such as inter-node information exchange, OKAPI, Geokrety, etc.
